liarel never could remember any of the events that brought her to candlekeep, but she knew she had a life before, even if it was forever lost to her. she would have memories of things, sometimes, she thought, but more likely they were only figments of her imagination, and she left them behind, knowing that she couldn't rely on a past she couldn't remember to bring her a peaceful and happy future. determined to move forward, and not to look back, she absolved to never try to regain her lost memories, and instead, lived an idyllic life, reading and daydreaming, until the day her father was killed.
lia was lucky enough to fall in love hardly before she even understood what it meant, and that love brought her through the most difficult times of her life, and she knew that she would have been utterly lost without it. her retirement from adventuring could not come soon enough, and she was more than happy to finally leave behind those dusty, bloody days.
liarel's wide-eyed innocence and insatiable love for life meant that she fell in love with a gloomy, dark-haired enchanter the moment she met him, of course. fascinated by his world-weary outlook even as he continued to press onward, she was drawn to him even as he was inevitably charmed by her. an enchanter herself, they found that together their magic worked in wondrous ways, even before they formed their unbreakable bond. both of them were surprised and devastated to learn of her true origins, but by then it didn't matter. they were well and truly in love, and nothing could break the bond they shared, or destroy the love they had cultivated.
though they were separated after their victory in the undercity, they found each other again after liarel's torture at the hands of a madman. though she was upset with him for leaving her, she found that she couldn't stay that way for long, as, after all, she understood responsibility. restored to one another, they swore they would never be apart again. even after the loss of her soul, their bond did not diminish, and at their stand in the graveyard liarel risked her own life to save xan's, knowing that it might cost her everything. nothing, though, was more important to her than his life. her gamble paid off, and the vision of xan's death that had haunted her nightmares ever since their days on the sword coast had at last been defeated. they celebrated that night, and many nights after, for something in liarel's heart had lightened, and her hope for the future was stronger than ever.
as the bhaalspawn wars raged on, they dreamed about and planned their future. they were ready to set down the mantle of adventuring, and liarel was eager for them to build a home and a family together. she dreamed of evereska, and felt in her heart that someday they would find their peace there together. and though their heart and souls had been bonded for months, after liarel turned down divinity they were officially married, in a beautiful ceremony attended by all their closest friends and some of the people they'd met along the way. everyone in attendance agreed that they had never seen liarel more resplendent, or xan looking almost happy.
though the pair were known to take on the occasional mage apprentice, they also had an extensive family of their own, and they raised them with love and a gentle but stern hand. liarel took excitedly to being a mother, happy to spread life rather than the death that had followed her in her earlier life. they all grew into powerful elves in their own right, and though their parents' names preceded them, they never resented it. as for liarel and xan, well, in their home on the edges of evereska, it is said they are happy still.
