illumine was born to human parents who loved each other, but were baffled by their daughter's fantastical appearance. upon looking into their family's genealogy with the help of a local magic-practicer, they were able to trace back several generations and find that there was fire in their history—fire that had lain dormant for years, but had manifested itself in illumine. though they loved their daughter, they could not protect her from the world, or from the rumors that followed her around.
still, illumine grew up compassionate and kind, in spite of, or perhaps because of, the bile that was often aimed her way. she learned that while she could not affect the way others would respond to her, she could control her own words, and her own actions. she was drawn to magic, and spent her time with that, focusing on improving herself. though at first, she studied spells and cantrips as any young mage might, she became enamored with the idea of using magic as a tool, and realized that more than casting spells, she could use it as a forge.
though she loved her parents, her village was small, and she wanted to learn more about magic and see the world. eager to expand her knowledge, she travelled to the biggest metropolises she could find as well as venturing out into the untamed wilderness, looking for anything or anyone that could help her. no matter what happened along the way, she always remained the same kind and gentle person as she'd always been, wanting to make the world a better place.
