history

early in her life, rina gained permission to leave the plane of her birth and travel, that she might meet new people and learn from them and their views on life. it was granted, and she set out with a light heart and a happy song on her lips, eager to expand the world beyond her own small view and share her music with them.

the love of rizane's life was a human who died long before the prime of rina's life had even begun. though powerful beyond many, she could not extend his life beyond its natural end or bring him back, and she wept for months on end, the time passing like seconds to her. for a time, it seemed that she would fold into her grief and fall irrevocably apart. instead, though, she surprised people by ultimately pulling herself together and moving forward with her life. she didn't want to. but it was either that, or lay down and die, and she did not have the latter in her. she understood, when he passed, why so many of her kind chose to stay where they had been born and live out their lives with people they knew in a place that was safe.

though she went through the motions of having recovered, parts of her were still missing. her songs didn't have the same beautiful and lively quality they had had when her husband was still alive, though no one could have noticed. she continued to bring her music wherever she went, but many years passed before her sadness ebbed and she was able to sing of happy things again and at last began to heal. eventually, after long travels, she returned home and spent millennia in the demi-planes of her people, learning to laugh again and enjoy the beautiful courts. it was only then that she truly began to appreciate and understand just what her lost love had given her, and how she still carried that love and the memory of that joy inside her heart.

rina met theodore when they were both young, and she was captivated by him immediately. tall and handsome, her heart fluttered at the very sight of him, and the flutter turned into a windstorm when she learned that he was kindhearted and generous as well. he was enchanted by her, too, and in the next few weeks they had a whirlwind romance that turned into happily ever after. rina became pregnant with their first child, and they were married in a beautiful ceremony where the air was so thick with flowers it was nearly impossible to the the couple's beaming faces.

their years together were blissful and happy, and rina knew that she had found the love of her life. after the birth of their son, the couple welcomed more children into the family, raising them in a home full of light and laughter. rina was complete, and theo showed her how much he loved her every day, be it bringing her a wildflower bouquet for their home or a glittering new dress or simply by being there for her.

still, no happiness can stave off death, and theo's temples began to grey as he reached the twilight of his life. rina despaired, but she knew that she would have to let him go. he asked her not to be sad, to embrace love again, to continue her song and her life in joy, as she had before, and she thought that maybe, she could try. the day he passed was cold and rainy, as if the world cried for her, and rina wept. she wept for so long that when she looked up again the seasons had changed.
