if sarran seems cold, it's because he is. he's had to be, ever since he lost his family in a war he'd sooner forget. chased out of sildëyuir by the cruel invaders, he found himself alone, stranded in a place he didn't recognize. but life goes on, with or without consent, and sarran realized that he would have to move on or become swept up in grief and vengeance.
with the remembrance of his family tattooed onto his back, sarran threw himself into his blades, feeling his heart grow ever colder as the survival instinct took over. he wanted to live, and keep living, but not at the expense of ever having to feel heartbreak again.
sarran always thought of love as a luxury he couldn't afford. his heart had already been broken, and now he kept it behind walls of ice. for a brief moment in time, he met a girl who he almost thought could change everything, and he almost told her about his past and he thought that after all this time he was healing. but the moment only lasted for a few days before they parted in utter frustration, unable to understand what was in the other's heart.
he never thought of her again, until the day he heard rumors of a girl afflicted with an incurable disease. the people of her town were offering any reward asked for that was within their power to give to whoever was able to cure her, and sarran was never able to resist the prospect of a good reward.
he was surprised, though, to find that this was the same girl he'd met so many years ago. for the first time, something in his heart flickered, the ice shards melting. he took care of her, and they learned about each other, and he thought that someone who had given her entire life to other deserved for someone to do the same, for once. he never would tell what he traded for her life to be saved, in fact, he never admitted that it was him at all. it was the first thing he'd ever done without demanding credit or payment.
he stayed with amiyea after that. even though he had become used to not trusting anyone, he trusted her, and he couldn't imagine going back to the loneliness he had once been so used to. it took him a while, but eventually, he realized that he loved her. despite his fear of heartbreak, he knew he had to be the one to make the leap if he wanted her, so he did, showing her how much he loved her, every part of her.
