thalia would actually have been happy to get married, especially once she met her kind and handsome fiancé. the nobles could not let them be, however, and he was murdered, after which she cut down his killers in a vicious fury. with little choice, she went off into the grey wardens, searching for a new life even as she mourned her old one. despite her loathing of the circumstances that set her free, she could not deny her joy at being able to explore the world.
lia fell in love with the great wide world, and the fact that she was able to help people along the way was just a bonus. though genuinely kind, lia gave more thought to her own freedom than to anyone else. it was simply the way things were for her after being trapped in a prison for so long.
in the present, no one really knows what she does, though it's quite established that she and her husband rarely part. where they spend their time, though, is a mystery to all but their closest friends.
after losing her fiancé just after meeting him, lia wasn't sure her tender heart was able to open up again. but instead it went to the last person she expected: someone who had tried to kill her. she thought it would be hard, but it was one of the easiest things she'd ever done, falling in love.
though the relationship didn't start out serious, it developed organically and what had once been a mutual attraction quickly grew into something more. once the blight was over, the couple was married and their travels began in earnest, with the true exploration beginning.
